Café Clark is an upcoming coffee shop located along Vernor Highway in Southwest Detroit, dedicated to enhancing neighborhood vibrancy through artisanal coffee, locally inspired food, and a welcoming, community-centered experience.

As the first retail tenant at La Joya Gardens, Café Clark is led by longtime Southwest Detroit residents Melisa Hernandez and Eduardo Salas, who have extensive experience in food service and operations. Rooted in their deep connection to the neighborhood and their Mexican heritage, the café will offer a traditional coffee menu alongside light breakfast options and a lunch selection featuring snacks, salads, sandwiches, and curated items from local businesses.

Designed as more than just a café, the space will foster collaboration, support local entrepreneurs, and reflect the culture and character of Southwest Detroit. Café Clark will occupy approximately 500 square feet of retail space within La Joya Gardens, a mixed-use development aimed at strengthening
community vitality.

La Joya Gardens is part of the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, an initiative focused on revitalizing Detroit neighborhoods through inclusive development. The project will include 53 residential units, along with community and retail space. Located two blocks east of Clark Park, the development is supported by
Invest Detroit and a coalition of partners, including the Southwest Detroit Business Association, Cinnaire Solutions, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, Flagstar Bank, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, and the Detroit Housing Commission.

Café Clark has received capital support from ProsperUs Detroit, helping advance the business toward a successful launch and long-term sustainability.

Café Clark is expected to open in 2026. Learn more at www.cafeclarkdetroit.com.
